Mom and dad hands making heart on pregnant bellyWhen you’re pregnant, your baby’s health is always on your mind. You want to make the right choices not just for you, but for the sake of the life that’s growing inside of you. Chiropractic is a safe, effective form of health care that can keep you comfortable and optimize your overall well-being while pregnant.

Dr. Nicholas is experienced in assessing pregnant women, then providing the care they need to return to a state of great health.

The Changes That Occur When You’re Pregnant

There are numerous shifts that occur in your body when you’re expecting. One of the most obvious would be a growing belly. Your baby’s development results in a shift in your body’s center of gravity, which can result in problems like back pain and sciatica. Furthermore, there are hormones released to relax the ligaments and soft tissues of the body. Their function is to make sure you’re prepared for birth, but they can also cause many forms of aches and pains.
NEW PATIENTS

With chiropractic, we promote the proper flow of energy through the body’s nervous system. As a result, any dysfunctions that an unhealthy nervous system results in will be reduced.

Dr. Nicholas is a practitioner of Chiropractic BioPhysics®. This technique is based on the restoration of the proper spinal curves. When you’re pregnant, your spine changes drastically in response to your growing baby and changing body. When you have postural correction as a part of your care, you can experience pain relief, get your body ready for birth and expedite your overall healing process.

The Webster Technique

If your baby is positioned incorrectly in the uterus, it will increase the trauma involved in the birthing process. There is already trauma involved, even in a perfect natural birth. If the baby isn’t in the right position, the trauma is far greater.

Through the use of the Webster Technique, we can release tension in key areas of the body, which may allow your baby to be in a more correct position. As a result, the possibility of trauma at birth is greatly reduced.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often will I need to come in for appointments??

The frequency of your visits will depend on your situation and case. Typically, we start off slowly, seeing you less often at the start of your pregnancy. Later on, as your belly grows and your center of gravity shifts, we’ll see you more often.

Is the new patient process different for pregnant women?

The same process is used for a new patient whether pregnant or not. One difference is that during your consultation, Dr. Nicholas will discuss the particular forms of subluxation that happen when you’re pregnant, why they occur and how they can be corrected.

Do you have specialized techniques for expecting moms?

Yes. There are options such as the Activator® instrument, which is a nonforce way to be adjusted. Dr. Nicholas will work on the soft tissues of your body as well as the spine and joints. All techniques are tailored to you and safe during pregnancy.

How early in my pregnancy should I begin care?

If you’re not already a chiropractic patient when you become pregnant, it’s a great idea to start care as soon as you can. There is no stage at which it is most appropriate to start care. The quicker you begin, the sooner you’ll start seeing positive changes in your health and well-being.

Should I bring my baby in after they’re born?

Yes. Dr. Nicholas sees many pediatric patients, including newborns. It’s never too early to begin chiropractic. By having your baby checked early in life, you can make sure you’re doing everything possible to help them avoid common childhood ailments and enjoy the best possible health.
